Modern Architecture in Culturally Sustained Japan: Ulker Copur

Architect Ulker Copur, Ph.D. take us on a journey through Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe to see how Japanese architects became the leaders, of this new ecologically sensitive era and answers the questions: How does Japanese architecture embody nature? How did Japanese architects blend the chaotic and loud vertical city environment and the contemplative silent life of community places, into a cohesive system? How did they transform the internalized horizontal culture into a vertical one? Ulker Copur, Ph.D., is a professor of architecture emerita, at Roger Williams University, School of Architecture, Art and Historic Preservation. She was a Fulbright Scholar at Moscow Institute of Architecture andreceived her Ph.D. from Cornell University. Her course on Modernism in the Non-Western World received an American Institute of Architects Award which covers Middle East, Indian Peninsula, Japan and Russia. Register to obtain Zoom link.
