VIRTUAL: Craft and Learning: Wampum Beads – Native American Art
June 2, 2021 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Join Ameila from the Network for Social Justice outside on the library lawn for a craft session and learning experience about Wampum Beads and Native American Art. Last summer, Amelia interned with the Network for Social Justice and the Indigenous Peoples Advocacy Committee, where she learned about Native American tribes in Massachusetts and the work of Native Americans today on a wide range of issues. She will talk to students about Native Americans in Massachusetts and lead a craft on making replicas of Wampum Beads, smooth beads made out of quahog shells, traditionally made by the Wampanoag Tribe.
This is an IN PERSON, socially-distant, outdoor event. In the event of inclement weather this program will be run virtually and participants will be emailed a zoom link and a schedule for when kits can be to picked up. We will do our best to provide at least 48 hours notice if the program becomes virtual.
This event is for students in grades K-5. Registration is required to reserve your kit.
We will email you to arrange for you to pick up your kit.
